One Year Book of Amish Peace Devotional

I was given the privilege of reviewing Tricia Goyers book Amish Peace, a One Year Devotional. I love everything Amish. Why? Well when I was little my mom would take me to Shipshewana, IN on the way to my Grand Parents. There are just some great memories.  I really admire the simplicity of their life.

Below I’ve included an excerpt about the book and Tricia Goyers bio form her website. I have also included a pic of her new book A Christmas Gift for Rose, and some Amish recipes. If you look in my sidebar you will also see a widget for Tricia’s blog Not Quite Amish which I’ve been a follower of for over a year and had no idea they were the same. So I’m really honored to have the privilege to share this all with you.

So I received a digital download of this book and am in love. I have a Christmas gift in mind now. My favorite part is the Whoopie Pie Prayers. The author describes how whoopie pies are a special treat to Amish children and their parents know that they should be reserved for special times. She then goes on to explain how “God generously gives good gifts to His children, yet we also must trust his timing”. At the end of each devotional is also a prayer. So I love what I’ve seen and read so far and am so excited to purchase the physical copy. (my mom and grandma will love this for Christmas, shhhhh!)

But as she prepares to marry, she’s thrown into confusion when she learns the truth of her birth. She was born Englisch and abandoned when the family moved on in search of work.

Was she meant to be Amish or would she have been better off growing up with her own kind—Englischers? And was her intended’s gift of discovering her birth family given out of love or fear?

The Blessed Woman By Debbie Morris (Review)

Image

Debbie Morris take you through the lives of 12 woman in the bible. She starts out with Eve, and Mary and ends with Naomi. For each woman she applies a concept from their lives and helps apply it to todays woman. For Mary she talks about “Being Uses by God, Despite our Inadequacies”. Through every chapter is a new woman to learn from and gain understanding. This book will open your heart and help you gain the understanding of what it means to be a woman before God and follow him. Just as these women followed God thousands of years ago.

Another great feature of this book is the study guide at the back. If you have a group of women you enjoy getting together with this would be a great book  to read through and grow together. You could also use it for yourself and it will help you just gain some more understanding for yourself.

When my girls get older, middle school age, I believe this would be a great book for them to read. Teach them what it means to be a Godly woman. “Because we as women are fashioned wonderfully and uniquely by God, femininity is living in all the splendor of who God created us to be!”

So to sum up what I thought about this book. I thought it was great. It came at the right time and open my eyes to some heart issues I’ve been struggling with. I love the variety of topics the author covered and thought she was very thorough in her thoughts. So go pick it up today. You won’t be sorry you read it.

Chivalry Review

978-1-4143-7635-6

“To rise from error to truth is rare and beautiful.” -Victor Hugo

I’m not sure what I expected when I received this book. It is an eye opener and full of the honest truth. It’s one of those books that you either agree with or you don’t. The author Zach Hunter brings about the issues of todays world and their lack of chivalry. He brings about issues that we all deal with. Some of these issues are truth, honor, self control and so on. This is what I would call a heart book. It deals with the matters of the heart which we all have struggles with in one area or another. I would recommend this book to any teen or older. I believe this is a great book to introduce them to the truths of this world. This is a great book to prepare the heart and mind for the growing adult for this less than civil world.

About the Author:

Zach Hunter is a college student, an abolitionist, and an activist who fights modern-day slavery and other problems in the world today. Zach has spoken to hundreds of thousands of teens in person ad millions by television, radio and magazines. sharing about God’s heart for the hurting and oppressed. He is the author of Be the Change, Generation Change, and Lose Your Cool.

Nearing Home Life, Faith, and Living Well By: Billy Graham (Review)

Nearing Home Life, Faith and Living Well

Author: Billy Graham

Publisher: Thomas Nelson

Retails:15.99 (paperback)

Genre: Religion/Inspirational/General

Book Description

“Don’t resent growing old many are denied the privilege.” In Nearing Home Billy Graham share his struggles and challenges he has faced with growing old. He describes how he never thought he would make it into his nineties but how he feels the Holy Spirit has lead him here. How he deals with nearing home and God’s strength and how to grieve for those who are close to you going home before you.

My Thoughts

What a humble man Billy Graham is. He put my life into a new perspective I’ve never looked into before.

“But none of these things move me, neither count I my life dear unto myself, so that I might finish my course with joy, and the ministry, which I have received of the Lord Jesus, to testify the gospel of the grace of God.”  Acts 20:24 (KJV)

I never thought that at my young age I would be able to engage in a book by Billy Graham. I thought it would be dry and I wouldn’t be able to get past the first few pages before I put it back on my shelf to collect dust. This is one of those times I’m glad I was wrong. After the first couple of aha moments, I definitely will never judge an Author by his age again.

In this book Nearing Home I’ve reevaluated how to look and live my life. I’ve always been fearful of death because  I fear uncertainty and like to know what’s coming. Billy Graham has calmed my spirit and opened my eyes to realizing I’m going home and to have comfort in that. He talks about old age and how to gracefully become old and how it is “the greatest surprise of his life.” Which is a surprise to me. I hear a lot of my elders who complain about being old and how they wish they were young again. I’ve been thinking all along that I would hate to get old. But after hear these wise words and words of encouragement I’m excited for what lies ahead.
